General information for the day

Excitement is building!  With only a short time before The Big Sing festival, now is the time to start planning your day.  All artist bios are up on our website together with the full schedule.  YOu don't need to book in for workshops but it's a good idea to know what you want to do before you come.  We are really looking forward to seeing you at the event, and sharing an amazing day with you doing something you love - singing!

01/The Venue
  • The Big Sing Festival is being held at The Space Dance and Arts Centre - 318 Chapel St, Prahran VIC 3181. Google Map Link here

  • Parking is available in the surrounding streets but it is recommended to take public transport if you can. 

  • Parking Options: Prahran Square Parking. View parking rates here. It’s $17.80 for the whole day.

  • By Train: Prahran Station is the closest - 7 min walk

  • By Tram: No. 72 or No. 6 Tram.

02/Tickets and Registration
  • A Big Sing Festival ticket is a full day pass granting access to all sessions (subject to room capacity).

  • ​Tickets are all pre-purchased but there may be some available at the door  (eftpos or credit card only) unless sold out prior to the event. 

  • Bookings for individual sessions is not required except for the 'Fasterclass' Sessions which are now sold out!

  • On arrival please proceed to the registration desk. Registration is between 9:00am and 9:30am. Please try to be on time. 

  • A light breakfast will be provided for early comers.

  • Festival attendees will be provided with a wristband that should be worn at all times.

03/The Schedule
  • We will start the day at 9:30am sharp with a beautiful warm up session by Darren Percival.  

  • Workshops occur throughout the day between 9:30am and 6:00pm and we will finish the day with a short performance. 

  • Most sessions run for 60 or 80 minutes unless otherwise indicated.

  • A 10 minute break is allocated between some sessions for changeover.

  • Lunch time will be one hour at 1pm

  • We encourage you to come for the whole day as you will get the most benefit out of it, but of course we understand if you can't.  

  • Fasterclasses - these will run alongside the workshops in 10 minute intervals. You will sign up for time slot at registration. A separate email will be going out to all Fasterclass registrants with more information. 

04/The Workshops
  • Several spaces will be utilised and the room allocation for each session is indicated in the program schedule.

  • In all time slots there are 2 different sessions to choose from.

  • Refer to the Presenter BiosSchedule and Workshops information pages for further information.

  • A program will be provided to all ticket holders on the day.

  • It is recommended to have a rough idea of what workshops you want to do before you come but feel free to change your mind. :-)

  • The program is subject to change and will be updated on the website so please check closer to the event.

  • Please do not wander into other areas of the venue without permission.

05/ Food and Drinks

  • Some light refreshments will be provided between 9-9:30am so get there early!

  • Light snacks and beverages will be available throughout the day. 

  • Lunch will not be provided so we recommend you either bring your lunch or buy something nearby. There are many eateries to choose from on and around Chapel St. There is also a great cafe below the venue for coffee and snacks. 

  • Afternoon tea will be provided

06/ Song List and Lyrics
  • So you can hit the ground running at the event, we have provided a list of most of the songs that will be taught on the day.

  • Please print the lyrics out prior to the event or save them to your mobile device to access on the day. 

  • Big Sing Australia is unable to print these out on your behalf due to copyright restrictions.  The presenters will also be bringing limited number of hard copies for you.

07/ What to Bring

​

  • Cushion (optional) - we will have chairs and beanbags but feel free to bring a cushion if you prefer. 

  • Mobile phone/ipad/notebook - just something to take notes or refer to lyrics.  NB:  You may want to also bring a phone charger. We will have powerboards available if required. 

  • Your lunch -  if you don't want to buy down Chapel St

  • Song lyrics printed out (see point 06 above)

  • An open mind and a willingness to learn, experience and enjoy!

08/ Fasterclasses
  • Your Fasterclass is a private solo session that will go for about 10 minutes.

  • In a nutshell, you will come in, sing one or two songs to our panel of experts.

  • The panelists will give you immediate feedback and advice on your voice or performance.

  • Please prepare one or two contrasting songs but you may only end up singing one song. It's up to you what you prefer to do. 

  • There will be an accompanist there who will be able to play pretty much anything, so feel free to bring sheet music.  Or you can do it acapella.

  • When you register on the day, you will be asked to choose your preferred time slot in the day which will occur anytime from 11am - 5pm

09/ Other

Volunteers

  • Big Sing volunteers will be floating around all areas throughout the day to direct you. Feel free to ask them if you require any assistance. They will be highly visible in their Big Sing T-shirts!

 

Photography/Video

  • A photographer and videographer will be taking photos at the event which may be used in promotional material, social media and on the website.

  • Please notify a volunteer at the registration desk if you do not want photos of you used for these purposes.

 

Disabled Access

  • The Space studios are accessible to people of all abilities. Please email us (bigsingfestival@gmail.com) prior to the event if you have special requirements.
